Obituary For William Miles

COMBE DOWN VETERAN

Funeral of Mr. Wm. Miles at Monkton Combe

The funeral of Mr. Wm. Miles, of Prior Park House, Combe Down, who died on Nov. 20th, at the age of 89, took place at Monkton Combe Cemetery, on Wednesday.

Mr. Miles was born and bred on Combe Down, and took a very active part in the affairs of the parish. He was chairman for a number of years of the Parish Council, a brother of the Ancient Order of Foresters for 67 years, and treasurer for 57 years. He joined the branch on May 8th, 1864, became assistant secretary in 1873, and held office as treasurer until Nov.
9th, 1931, resigning owing to illness.

He will be sadly missed by many friends, for he was
loved by all who knew him.

The Rev. A. B. Lloyd (Vicar) officiated at the service, which was held at Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down.

The Mourners.

The mourners were: Will and Alice, Fred and Flo, George and Nell; Alf and Rose, and Lill and Lou (sons and daughters); Mrs. Greenland (sister); Mr. Whitaker, Mr. Marsh and Mr. Bishop (sons-in-law); Mrs. A. Miles and Mrs. W. Miles (daughters-in-law); Mrs, Gough and Miss Greenland (nieces); Mr. Fred Fisher, Mr. G. Phillips and Mr. E. Phillips (nephews); Mr. Reg Miles, Mr. Stanley Miles, Mr. Eddie Miles and Mr. Sidney Marsh (grand- sons); and Mr. Freeman (friend).

Floral tributes were sent by the widow, Flo and Lou; Will and Rose; Fred and Nancy; George and Ada; Alf and Lill; Rose and Dick; Lill and Ern; Alice and Ted; Reg, Rene and Percy (grandchildren). Mr. Gough; Mr. E. Phillips; Miss Knott; Ancient Order of Foresters; Mr. Bladwell; Mr. and Mrs. Morris; Mrs. Wall and Mrs. Perry; Mr. Fisher; Mrs. Grant; Mrs. Clark: Miss Baverstock; Mrs. Rivington; and Mr. Freeman.

Members of the Combe Down branch of Court Prince of Wales 4535, A.O.F., who attended were: Mr. J. V. Whitaker, Mr. W. G. Bishop, Mr. W. Warren, Mr. W. Pearce, Mr. William Fisher, Mr. William Pearce, Mr. William Patch, Mr. W. J. Williams, Mr. A. S. Pearce, Mr. P. E. Pearce, Mr. Edward Hancock, Mr. Edward Russell, Mr. Fred West, Mr. William Milsom, Mr.
F. Brown, Mr. Charles Prescott, and Mr. Wicks.
