COMBE DOWN BOWLERS DEATH
Former Employee of Messrs. Fry’s
Mr. Walter Frank Allen, who died at a Bath hospital on Tuesday, was the eldest son of the late Mr. Frances Allen of spring Cottage, Combe Down.
He entered the employment of Messrsrs. Fry, the chocolate and cake manufacturers, with whom he remained for 39 years, from 1885 to his retirement on Sept. 27th 1924.
One of his cherished memories was the work in connection with the time given on several
occasions to the employees at the Colston Hall Bristol and the thanks accorded him personally by the late Mr. J. S Fry for his services.
Mr. Allen’s work brought him a contract with a large number of staff, and he was a popular colleague. His favourite pastimes were skiing bowls and motor-cycling.
After his retirement Mr. A returned to his old home at Combe Down, where he resided with his sister Miss L. Allen. until his death.
Keen Bowler
Retaining all his associations who his friends at Fry’s, Mr. Allen became an active member of the bowling club, where he met with considerable success, playing on the Bath and Bristol greens as well as in many parts of the country.
Mr. Allen is survived by a brother and three sisters. His wife died years ago. He leaves a
family of - two sons and four daughters.
The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at Canford Cemetery, Bristol, at 11 o’clock.
