DEATH OF MR. F. J. HOBBS.

Well-known Combe Down Tradesman.

Residents of Combe Down, and many in Bath, will learn with deep regret of the death on Wednesday of Mr. Frederick John Hobbs, of Isabella House, Combe Down.

Mr. Hobbs took chill about ten days ago, but it was not until Tuesday that serious symptoms manifested themselves. Unfortunately the chill lead to congestion of the lungs and this proved fatal. The deceased was 53 years of age.

He was a native of Bath, but had spent considerable part of his life at Cheltenham where he had business.

He left there, however, come to Combe Down sixteen years ago on the retirement of Mr. J. Riddle, his uncle, whose bakery and confectionery business he succeeded to.

Mr. Hobbs worshipped at Combe Down church where he had been sidesman since coming to the parish to live. At one period, several years ago, he was an overseer.

He was a member of the Bath Master Bakers' Association.

Mr. Hobbs leaves widow, two sons and two daughters. His eldest son, Mr. N. V. H. very well-known in local sporting circles, being a member of the Bath Cricket Club, Ist XI, and the Paulton Rovers F.C.

The funeral will take place at the Abbey Cemetery next, Tuesday afternoon and will be preceded a service at Combe Down Church.

Combe Down's Tribute of Respect at the Funeral.

- Amid maily manifestations sympathy and sorrow, the body of the late Mr. F. J. Hobbs of Isabella House, Combe Down, well known business man, and sidesman at the Parish Church, was laid to rest the Abbey Cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to interment a special service was held at the Combe Down Church, at which the (Vicar (Rev, E. Watton) and Dr. Horton Sweetapple, Vicar Box and former Vicar of Combe Down, officiated. Mr. W. A. Bishop was at the organ As the cortege entered the building he played Handel's " I '-.now that Redeemer Liveth , and the recessional was Rest m (Mendelssohn). Two hymns were sung U trod Our Help," and Peace, Perfect Peace, Dr. Swertapple, who was old of the deceased gentleman, read the lesson and pronounced the committal sentences at the graveside, the burial office being intoned by the Vicar.

The mourners were Mrs. Hobbs (widow), Mr. N F. C. Hobbs and Mr. Cordon Hobbs (sons), Miss Daisy Hobbs- and Miss Irene Hobbs (daughters), Mr. C. Young (Cardiff), Mrs. Carder, Mr. Frank Batten, Mrs. Priest. Miss L. Batten, Mr. and Mrs. T. Davis (Cheltenham), Mr. and Mrs. F. Talbot (Midsomer Norton), Mr and Mrs. West (Midsomer Norton), Mr. ami Mrs. J. S. Riddle, Mr. and Mrs Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Ings, Mr. and Mrs. (Plymouth), Mr. and Mrs. Oadle and Mr. and Mrs. Waite (Cheltenham)

Other near relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. F. Kettlety (brother-in-law and sister), Mr F H. Pine (Chairman the Monkton Combe Parish Council) was unavoidably absent.
