Obituary For Leonard Nelson Haxell

FORMER CHAPLAIN AT FROME ROAD HOUSE

Many Bathonians will learn with regret that the Rev. Leonard Nelson Haxell, who for nine years was chap- lain at Frome Road House (the Bath Public Assistance Institution) died on Thursday at "Stanway," London Rd.. Bath, in his 81st year.

Mr. Haxell, who was the brother-in-law of the late Col. Egbert Lewis, formerly of Bathwick Hill, was endowed with a cheerful and courteous disposition, and truly merited the description of a Christian optimist.

Since 1935 he had been living in retirement, as the outcome of a severe operation, which involved
the amputation of both legs at the knees. The operation was performed at a Clifton nursing
home.

On relinquishing the chaplaincy at Frome Road House, Mr. Haxell accepted the Somerset
living of Henton, which is situated near Wells, at the foot of the Mendip Hills.

Here he remained for nearly three years. Both Mr. Haxell and his wife took a great interest in the
parish. A debt of nearly £40 on the church was practically liquidated. new heating apparatus was installed, and a parish hall was provided.

The funeral will take place to-day (Saturday), Aug. 12th, at the crematorium, Arnos Vale, Bristol, at 11.15 a.m. It was Mr. Haxell's wish that no flowers should be sent.
