Obituary For George Fisher

COMBE DOWN NONAGENARIAN

PASSING OF MR. GEORGE FISHER

Combe Down has lost one of its oldest and most respected inhabitants by the death of Mr George Fisher, who passed away on Wednesday morning at the residence of his son, Mr. Alfred Fisher, 1, Stonehouse Terrace, where he had lived for the past eighteen months.

Ninety years of age, had resided for over fifty years in Tyning Place, first with his wife, who died some 13 years ago, and afterwards with a married daughter.

He was at one time in the employ of Messrs. Bindwell, the well-known Bath firm, with whom he had over half-a-century of service.

His father was an employee of the G.W.R. at Limpley Stoke for over 40 years.

Mr. Fisher leaves a brother, Mr. William Fisher, Gladstone Road, Combe Down, and two sisters, all of whom are over 80 one sister living at Batheaston and the other at Hungerford.

Mr. Fisher had a family of ten children, eight of whom survive him.

He was regular supporter of the Combe Down Rugby Club and took a keen interest in all forms of sport- His sons were regular members of the Combe Down club some 30 years or ago, as well as of the old athletic club.

He was keen Liberal, and his death will bring back vivid memories of the days when the late Sir John Barlow fought his many contests in the Frome Division.

The funeral will take place at Monkton Combe on Tuesday afternoon.

He will be buried in the same grave as his wife. iends are asked to note Mr. Fisher's express wish, that no flowers be sent.
