Obituary For Frederick George Holley

COMBE DOWN RESIDENT

Death of Mr. F. G. Holley

The death took place on Wednesday at the Forbes Fraser Hospital, Bath, of Mr. Frederick George Holley, Cook's Lea, Combe Down, who for many years was in charge of the police of Combe Down and district.

A man of genial and sterling character, he was greatly beloved.

After retiring from the Somerset Constabulary, after 27 years' service, he was appointed inspector of the B.S.P.C.A. In these combined offices he spent over 50 years in uniform - a record achieved by few.

On leaving Combe Down for another station he was presented with an illuminated address and purse of gold by the inhabitants as a mark of their high esteem.

When he finally left the constabulary, whilst stationed at Milborne Port, he was the recipient of many parting gifts, including an inscribed clock from the inhabitants and a stick from his colleagues,

He leaves a widow, son and two daughters.

The funeral will take place on Saturday at Monkton Combe Cemetery, the cortege leaving
Cook's Lea, Bradford Road, at 2 p.m.

The arrangements are in the hands of Mr. C. J.
Mannings.
