DEATH OF MR. FREDERICK BALDWIN.

We regret to have to record the death of Mr.
Frederick Baldwin, which as announced in our obituary, took place at his residence Crossway-place, Combe Down, on Friday, at the age of 59. The deceased gentleman had been in failing health for some time past, and had lately been confined to his house.

By his death the city loses a very worthy citizen, and one who had gained the general respect of his
fellow townsmen in the long period during which he carried on business in the city.

In early life he was a partner with the late Mr. William Titley, but subsequently for many years past
he has carried on the well-known business at No, 36, Stall-street.

Mr. Baldwin always took a great interest in the well-being of the city and of its institutions, and was a supporter of many of the latter. Of a charitable and kindly nature, he was ever willing to aid or relieve those in distress, and many, we believe, will have a grateful regard for his memory. He was disposed
to take an active interest in civic matters, but the political complexion of St. James's Ward
prevented him from representing it in the Council, though on one occasion he stood a
contested election.

He represented the parish some years since on the Board of Guardians, and proved himself a hardworking and painstaking member of that body, but the cause we have just mentioned led to his being unsuccessful at a contested election.

During his term of office Mr. Baldwin, in addition to the active discharge of his duties as a guardian, interested himself greatly in the promotion of entertainments at the Workhouse for the children and
imbecile inmates, his efforts contributing in no small measure to their success.

Mr. Baldwin was a Freemason, and a member of the Royal Cumberland Lodge. He leaves a widow, two
sons, and a daughter, with whom much sympathy is felt by the large circle of friends and acquaintances of the deceased gentleman in the city and neighbourhood.

The funeral of the deceased gentleman took place at Locksbrook Cemetery at noon yesterday.

The mourners were Mr. W. Baldwin, Mr. C. Baldwin (sons). Mr. Jas. Baldwin, Mr. Job Baldwin (brothers),
Mr. F. Helliar (step-brother), Mr. W. Winckworth, Rev. James Hussey (nephews), Mr. Collins (brother-in-law), Mr. R. B. Cater and Mr. O, W. Radway (executors and trustees).

The employees of the deceased followed also, and, together with others, placed a wreath and a
cross of flowers on the coffin.

In addition there was present a large number of Freemasons, including the following:-

Whatley, R. B. Cater, R. King, J. S. Turner, and Bro. J. Robinson, also represented the Lodge of Rectitude, Corsham (No. 335) of which the deceased was a past master. Mr. W. B. Clarke (hon. sec.) and Mr. F. Fry represented the Lyncombe and Widcombe Conservative Association, of which deceased was a member. Among others present were Mr. J. T.
Eddolls, Mr. G. Dowling, and Mr. J. Williams. The service was conducted by the Rev. F. W. Fowler, Ten members of the Police Force, to whom deceased had showed much kindness in helping them with respect to their picnics &c., were present as bearers and attendants.

The outside coffin was of polished English oak, panelled, with massive brass handles. The
inscription on the plate was "Frederick Baldwin, died June 29th, 1883, aged 59,"

The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Messrs. Becket and Sons, of Quiet street, and carried out
under the personal supervision of Mr. Chas, Becket.
