Monkton Soldier Who Served Through War
Due to be demobilised in three weeks' time, after serving in the Army from the beginning of the war Driver Edward George Mundy, R.A.S.C., youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Mundy, of 15, Croft Road, Monkton Combe, was killed in a motor accident on Saturday, on what was possibly his last operation.
Driver Mundy was driving an Army lorry at Bridgnorth. in Shropshire, on Saturday night, when, on taking a sharp bend in the road the lorry overturned, and he was buried beneath it death being instantaneous.
Aged 27, he went to the City of Bath Boys' School. He joined the Forces at the outbreak of the war, and was with his evacuation of Dunkirk.
He became a paratrooper and went into France on D-Day. He also served in Belgium. Holland and Norway.
His funeral was at Monkton Combe, on Wednesday.
